The cement industry is responsible for 5% of human based GHG emissions. 50% of these emissions arise from production processes, 40% from fuel consumption, 10% from electricity consumption and transportation. The Akcansa cement plant located in Canakkale constructed a waste heat recovery plant with 15.2 MW capacity which recovers waste heat as electrical energy.&lt;/p&gt;

 <title>SMILE - Sustainable Management of Local Electronic Waste</title>

Before the project started, the departments of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) were not qualified for waste disposal and the citizens of Istanbul had low awareness on this issue. SMILE supported the implementation process of national electronic waste disposal regulation, which was legislated recently, but not implemented yet. It aimed to collect electronic waste, to repair devices if possible, to create an inventory of collected materials and to determine the pieces that could be recycled. It was financed by the EU LIFE Programme, which aims to support EU candidate countries in implementing environmental policies. SMILE defined the framework for electronic waste management regarding collection systems, reuse, recycling, safe disposal, database creation, implementation of measures and most importantly, it helped municipalities to increase their technical and administrative capacity for electronic waste disposal management.&lt;/p&gt;

The sensors read the level of waste in each bin and transmit the data to a central management platform, which then allows to determine when and how the collection vehicles should start their route. This management platform can be accessed remotely in any web browser. Installing underground waste containers and equipping them with remote fill-level sensors resulted in cost reductions for municipal waste services of Cascais, while simultaneouly improving the services.&lt;/p&gt;

The programme aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions via carbon and energy management. TAV Airports Holding is also a member of this Airport Carbon Accreditation Programme. The company operates four airports in Turkey, including Istanbul Ataturk International Airport. Istanbul Ataturk International Airport not only aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions but also considers waste, water conservation and wastewater re-use.&lt;/p&gt;

The district shall help to achieve the energy strategy for Malmö, and be a dense, mixed and green showcase of sustainable city development.&lt;/p&gt;

That is why Milan is currently considered the international leader in organic waste collection and recycling. The facility, spanning over 15 ha, has the capacity to process 1,000 tonnes of waste per day. Collected at source, waste is brought to the facility and processed further. Incoming waste is sorted, chipped, recycled, and transported to landfilling, etc. The facility offers also a public drop-off and is equipped with a conference centre. The integration with a conference centre enables public events and visits to be held, and thus increases public awareness of waste management and the need and benefits of waste minimisation. Also processing, sorting and recycling of waste prevents landfilling of tonnes of waste, of which much could possibly be recycled. This not only results in environmental benefits and increased life quality but it is also expected to reduce costs of handling municipal solid waste in Cape Town. &lt;/p&gt;

The Shanghai Municipal Government has set a good example for cooperation in the fields of water resources and coastal management as well as effective decision making in order to allow for the implementation of such major projects in a relatively short time frame. &lt;/p&gt;
